Happy Thanksgiving!

Yes, I know that you won't be celebrating Thanksgiving until Thursday, November 27th, but we celebrated this year on Sunday, November 16th. It's only a date on the calendar, right? The turkey tastes good no matter when you eat it.

My parents were in town, stopping over at our house for 2 days on their way from their home in Arizona to a vacation in Hawaii, so this was our only opportunity to have a family celebration. My Aunt Joan and Uncle Ed came in from Las Vegas with their grandchildren Tanner and Peyton, and Joan's son, Tony, came out from Burbank as well. You can always count on Tony to show up for a free meal.

We had a wonderful day visiting before we gorged ourselves on the feast. It was about 90 degrees on Sunday, typical weather for a Southern California Thanksgiving, but it didn't slow the kids down from bouncing away the day on our trampoline.

Later, Peyton and Tanner brought out their clarinets and worked with Brodie on the piano to prepare a concert for the grown-ups. Nik accompanied the orchestra with jingle bells and acted as the emcee for the concert.

If I Were President

Against my own better judgement, I have started a new blog titled "If I Were President". It's a place for me to record my views on what's right and wrong with America. For many years I've felt that there is no one in the popular press reporting anything other than the party line. It's hard to find a truly unique view on the issues of the day. Politicians will never say the things I say, even if they believe my ideas to be valid. A politician is more concerned with saying what he thinks will earn him votes; He would never risk losing votes by speaking his mind and voicing an unpopular view. Apparently, a politician's real job is not to serve, but to be elected and re-elected.

My father has always told me that I have more smarts than common sense, and this new blog may well prove his point. Speaking one's mind in a straight-forward fashion seems like a good idea to me, but it's gotten me into trouble more than once. In this new blog you'll have no doubt as to where I stand on various issues regarding America and Americans.

Anyway, if you want to read my ramblings, you'll find them at http://randy-ifiwerepresident.blogspot.com/. Please start reading from the bottom of the page to the top, reading the oldest posts first. You've been warned.
